The Challenge: A Famous Mountain, Badly Documented
Moganshan is 63 to 80 minutes from Shanghai Hongqiao by direct train and 13 minutes from Hangzhou East. Shanghai families built a hill station up there in the 1890s, about 250 of the stone villas are still standing, and the mountain sits 6 to 7 degrees cooler than the cities all summer.
None of that was easy to find in English. The good information lived in forum threads from 2015, Chinese booking apps, and a scattering of blog posts that disagreed about which train station you want. A visitor asking simple questions, which villa route is worth walking, where to stay, is it actually worth the trip, had to assemble the answer themselves.
So the brief was a guide, not a brochure. It had to hold enough detail to plan a real weekend, and it had to make money without turning into an advertorial.

The Build: 78 Pages That Answer the Question in Front of Them
The site is organised the way a trip gets planned, not the way a tourism board thinks. What the mountain is, then things to do, then where to stay, then how to get there, then when to go.
Accommodation carries the most weight, 17 pages across resorts, villas, homestays, hotels, lodges, apartments and hostels, with 45 properties scored and ranked rather than listed alphabetically. Every price and rating is visible before anyone clicks. Booking runs through partner links behind /go/ paths, which redirect straight out and are blocked in robots.txt, so a crawler never spends its budget on them and no thin affiliate page ever gets indexed.
A live panel in the hero reads the current temperature, the day’s range and the local time on the mountain, which answers the first question a Shanghai reader has in July.
The editorial work matters as much as the structure. Ten named places with dates and numbers attached. Five ready-made itineraries, from a day trip to a five-day Shanghai and Hangzhou circuit. A month-by-month page marking which weeks are quiet, which are booked out and which are cold and cheap. A visa page covering the 240-hour transit rule for 50 countries. And a page that answers “is it worth visiting?” honestly, including the case against.
Every page is written to be quoted. Specific claims, numbers with sources, answers that stand up on their own when an AI assistant pulls one paragraph out of context.
The Outcome: One Place to Send Someone Who Asks
Visit Moganshan now covers the mountain properly in English, 78 pages of it, with ranked stays, real travel times and journal pieces on the hill station’s history.
For a destination whose entire problem was scattered information, being the page that answers the question is the whole job.
